Fire Flies : About the Song ... (part 2)

With everything in life, especially if you’re a singer/songwriter, there’s a story. And sometimes? It’s a little messy!
But I promise this one has a good ending :)

Fire Flies was written nearly 10 years ago when I first moved to Nashville. (more about those details here )

The core of the song is about letting go and in this case, it was about a person.

Why the Fire?!?

ah… I’m a songwriter and a poet at heart, so it’s a metaphor….

The fire is about the emotions, the passion, the deep love & in some cases, the anger, that can smolder within our hearts. It's a brave move to touch fire. And similarly, it takes a lot of courage & strength to walk away from someone we love or something meaningful to us.

Sometimes we find ourselves in situations that sear us like fire yet we hold on anyway, even when they are burning us metaphorically. It’s easy to underestimate the fearlessness it can take to let go of things, even when they are harming us.

The heart of Fire Flies is about taking that messy & painful ball of fire and chucking it as far as it can go …

Personally, when I wrote it - the song offered clarity and a deep resolution to a unhealthy relationship - names hidden to protect the innocent - (ha!ha!)
Interestingly, (here’s the dirt part) it was actually only a crush, but it had gone on way tooo long without a step forward.

And in reality, when I wrote this song I was already living in another city, so it was beyond time to let go and to
Throw this fire - The torch that I was carrying - and it let it Fly.

If you know me and my music, you know how deeply I value the power of music to heal and inspire.

It is my hope that this song touches others and brings them some comfort, courage, and the strength to heal on their journey of letting go and moving on as it did for me.

So there you go! That's the real "tea" behind Fire Flies ...
