How To Be A Compassionate Badass

I think the most badass people are the ones who truly don’t give a darn what other people think of them…. Unfortunately, I have never been one of those people.

And I believe that most of us are at least somewhat saddled with a sense of reaction to how other people behave towards them…

While finishing the coursework for my level 2 yoga teacher training, the mind & meditation, this amazing quote came across my path. Someone in my study group was discussing a break up and they were very hurt by their ex-partners behavior. Then Boom – another yogi shared this amazing insight…..

“If you are willing to look at another person’s behavior towards you as a reflection of the state of their relationship with themselves rather than a statement about your value as a person, then you will, over a period of time cease to react at all.”

What if her ex’s harsh & tumultuous behavior wasn’t because she was a terrible person and the acting out wasn’t because of anything she did or said? But instead he was acting in reaction to his broken & tumultuous relationship with himself? It’s so easy to take other people personally and it can bring us so much pain, shattered confidence and heartache. This applies to any relationship & insert your own adjectives - it doesn’t have to be a broken heart. There is so much power in allowing ourselves to shift our mindset.

If we can understand that people usually act in reaction to their situation and not because of US – it grants us the freedom to not take things personally! Exhale. When people say and do things – it is based on their reality - their past experiences, their present situation, and their emotional wellness or dis-ease. As we all know these things can change within us from day to day and sometimes from moment to moment. It’s impossible to truly know another person's complete inner dialogue or struggles. And when we can see that the people around us are acting in relationship to their inner world and not us or their outer reality – it can help us to reach a whole new level of peace within ourselves. Inner peace and true acceptance are pretty badass.

Thinking this way also enables us to see those around us with a bit more grace and compassion. Remember, everybody is fighting their own battles and these issues usually have nothing to do with You. Also, it's amazing to discover that when we begin to create a stronger inner relationship it enables us to show a bit more compassion towards ourselves! That's a win-win :)

That’s all for today! Things are ablaze in Blis-Land and there are new surprises headed your way soon! Promise
